Nut Cookies
Gluten Free and Dairy Free
In Italy, the Brutti Ma Buoni cookies have long been loved for their sweet, nutty flavor. Traditionally made with Almond or Hazelnuts, they are naturally gluten free and dairy free.
Brutti Ma Buoni means Ugly But Good. We think they look just fine, and the taste is even better.

These delicious treats were originally created by Constantine Veniani in 1878 in the small town of Gavirate in the province of Varese, where they are still made today at the I Brutti e Buoni Cake Shop.

From Northern Italy to Ithaca
When Lucienne's daughter visited Italy last year, she brought back some samples of the Brutti Ma Buoni cookies and asked that we recreate them. Lucienne has a great skill for creating recipes and we think she has developed an excellent version of this traditional Italian cookie.
Gluten Intolerance and Celiac Disease
It is unlikely that Constantine Veniani was aware of any medical issues with gluten when he first created these cookies in 1878. His interest was simply to make a delicious cookie. But the end result is the same; a gourmet treat that is Gluten Free and Dairy Free*. A fine substitute for scones, or tea biscuits for your afternoon tea, or as an accompaniment with wine or coffee. Buon Appetito
*Note: While most recipes for Brutti Ma Buoni cookies do not include butter, they are typically baked on a butter sheet pan. We do not use butter in the recipe or on the baking sheet.
